About Melanie

Melanie West was born and raised on a farm outside Coventry, England.

She studied at the art school in Nuneaton and later pursued fashion design at Loughborough College of Art and Design.

For four years, she worked as a costume designer and teacher at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London, before moving to Sweden in 1984 to work as a costume designer and stage manager at Reginateatern in Stockholm.

Since 2008, she has been working as an art and textile teacher in Stockholm.

Melanie’s life has followed winding and meandering paths, but throughout, she has been driven by a desire to explore “the possibilities of the image” through various techniques.

In this work, Melanie has primarily used oil, lime paint, spray paint, and ink pen in her distinctive technique.
